A resent airing of American Idol featured the legendary singer Dolly Parton. Several of the contestants chose deep spiritual songs written my Dolly Parton who professes Christ as her savior. Songs of Jesus, hope, and love were brilliantly sang to an audience of over 53 million viewers which culminated in Dolly signing her new hit, Jesus & Gravity from her new album Backwards Barbie.

Christian Music has been looked down on for years, but through American Idol, people are being introduced to Christian music and they are finding that it is not weird, but they like it.

Last season, Jordin Sparks, Melinda Doolittle, Chris Sligh, and Phil Stacey made expressions of faith, taking a stand for Christianity. In the previous season Carry Underwood was the overall winner and went on to become the biggest country music singer in the country with her hit, Jesus take the Wheel.”

This season Christianity is again being pushed into the lime light and not by contestants but by the producers as a new talent, The Clark Brothers, were invited to sing “This little light of mine” a negro spiritual yet twisted with a modern flare banjo rhythm.

American Idol has become the most successful television show in the history of television and has a heart to match. Last year Idol raised 75 million dollars to help African and American children in crisis. When it is in the power of your hand to do good, “do it” says the Bible and though their motives is to be a successful television show, their impact for God is immeasurable. Keep it up American Idol!
